Sierra Cup Videos

So here are some clips from a few of the songs I performed at Sierra Cup.
This first is a good chunk of Odyssius.

This second song is one of my favorites Jazz Man the title for this song has changed quite a bit, but this one is easiest to remember so now it's settled.

This song is just a bit of Nashville.  I think it recorded really well, so take a listen.  I'm thinking of playing this one if I get a spot at the Blue Bird Cafe when I'm at home.

This is the last video is a piece from 900 minutes/ 900 miles.  I'm going to go ahead and admit that I start a bit high with this one, but it all works out.

I'm in talks to perform at Sierra Cup again at the end of January, so hopefully that works out.

A Christmas Carol

All week long I have been in rehearsals for my part(s) in the Open Window's production of A Christmas Carol. I've got to be honest, when I first read the script, I was excited that I was asked to join, but I was a little hesitant to trust the words. I spent the week creating characters that overcame the language and were, I think, show stealers, but on the whole, I thought of the script more as a suggestion; which I'm sure was slightly nerve wracking to the director.
However, the last run through I had before next weeks show was attended by Jade. I, of course, hoped to hear raucous laughter and to be, several times throughout, distracted by my own brilliance and hilarity being so thoroughly engrossing and entertaining to my audience. (I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, I wholeheartedly mean every word in the last sentence.) However, there were only chuckles.
As it turns out, Jade did like the show. But most of all, she liked the script. She had the unique vantage point to be able see it all in motion.
I've said it before here, that I trust Jade's opinion well above my own (most of the time), and after trying so hard through every rehearsal to overcome the script, I find myself excited to work through the script.
The show goes up in one week, and I have all that time to, I guess, learn my lines.
I can't wait to see what happens.

Upcoming

This past weekend, I played my first LA show at Sierra Cup.  Thanks to everyone who came out, it was a very special show to me, and with the turn out I could keep it very intimate.  I am talking with the venue to play another show there at the end of January.  BUT, most importantly, in the next few days, I'm going to post some video and some photos from the show.  So be on the look out.

The Nutcracker Performance 1 & 2

The first two performances of The Nutcracker of 2008 are over.  Both of the shows went well, but each show had its peculiarities.
December 4th: Show 1
This show was directly after I worked all night at the sleep center, so I was running on an hour of sleep.  I arrived thirty minutes before show time to discover that the curtain had moved up a half hour, so as I walked in, it was time to perform.  Furthermore, the show is directed and staged in the round, but this particular venue was proscenium.  In the end, everything worked out fine.  I really enjoyed the challenges presented by figuring out how to move through the audience and where to find things that were usually right in front of me.  There was a great moment when I was unable to see a child dressed as a tree standing right in front of me.
December 5th: Show 2
Working on a full night of sleep and actually prepared for what confronted me, I had a fleeting moment of, "I'm about to make a fool of myself and fail horribly."  That however, only lasted until the show began.  I was odd though, I have rarely thought about any type of stage fright or performance anxiety in the past few years, I don't know what brought it on.  These shows went well.
I have two more dates scheduled this year with The Nutcracker.  I was talking with Jenny, the director and fellow actor, and realized that there are too few performances of the show each year.  Just when I start to be able to anticipate the audience's desire and reaction, the run ends, and by the following year, all the tastes have changed.

Sierra Cup Set List

So the order is yet to be determined, but I've finally put together the songs that will be played at this, my first LA gig.

  • Unwell
  • Acorn
  • Green Goblin
  • Nashville
  • Odyssius
  • 900 miles/900 minutes
  • Snow
  • Take the Money and Run (cover)

I realize that the song I'm covering has the coolest name of them all.
Hope to see you there.

Music Gig

Just a quick reminder that I am playing a show this Saturday, Dec. 6th @ 7:00pm, at the Sierra Cup.  The set is thirty minutes so if you are planning on coming, try not to run too late.
The address is:
409 S. Myrtle Avenue
Monrovia, Ca 91016

I'm listed on the website and I follow Tim Tedrow and Terry Vreeland, though they play @ 5 so I'm not sure I'm really following them.
Hope to see you there.

Casting:A Christmas Carol

In a previous post I mentioned how Open Window productions, which produces The Nutcracker might have openings in other show for me.  Well, it worked out, and I am now also working on A Christmas Carol, not to be confused with An American Carol.  The set-up is very similar to The Nutcracker in that I play all the male parts, aside from Scrooge, and that it will be performed at schools and with audience involvement.  I've had the script for a few days now and I start rehearsal tomorrow.  From what I can tell, this script has alot more improv than Nutcracker, which to me is exciting because I know what makes me laugh, but I'm not sure what translates to younger audiences; there will definitely be a chance to try new things!

Star-Spangled Girl Future Dates

I believe, for now, the possiblity of moving The Star-Spangled Girl to the Luna Playhouse in Glendale is no longer in the works. Aramadz approached the two casts with six perspective dates in December, but, between the other Norman and I, there were only two workable dates. I don't expect the return of this show, but it is not completely out of the picture.

The Nutcracker Returns

I have asked to reprise my roles in The Nutcracker which I worked on last year.  Right now there are about six performances dates scheduled totally roughly ten performances.  We had our first rehearsal this past Tuesday, and, although I was hesitant, I am really excited to be again be part of this.  I have kept alot of what worked last year but I have apparently grown in the last year, and I have some great new ideas that I think the kids will really enjoy.  Also, I have been asked be a part in another show by the same company; more on that if it comes to fruition.

Terribily Exciting Tune News

I can't access the full information at this time, but, this is so exciting for me, I will be playing my music at a Yogurt shope on December 6th from 7 - 7:30.  No, I don't know what the name of the Yogurt Shope is, besides that it is my favorite yogurt shope in LA.  No, I can't say the location right now, I have it written down just not with me right now.  No, it will not pay, but I do get free yogurt and soda.  Now that the no's are gone, I can tell you how very excited I am about someone listening to my music and asking me to perform at their establishment!!!!
I immediately went to my song catalogue and, though I found it lacking in up tempo catchy melodies, I did devise a rough set list which I will have a month to refine.  As of now, I am considering opening with Unwell for the rest of the set I'm considering Both of Us,Jazz Man,perhaps Estaban, Don't go Home.  I also am thinking of playing two covers, one of Jump, Little Children and one of The Weepies.
Anyway, that's all for now, more later.

Star-Spangled Girl Closing at the Lounge

This past weekend was the closing weekend of The Star-Spangled Girl at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood.  I've been putting off writing this because it felt like an imperfect PB&J sandwich, too much peanut butter, not enough jam, who knows it just wasn't perfect in my mouth.
Both Friday and Saturday had good crowds.  On Friday I tried some new ideas to improve moments that Jade and Meagan had said needed improvement.  It's difficult for me to try new things with an audience because I really want to get laughs from them and when things flop it's harder for me to step back and see what might have worked about the moment.  The audience however on Friday seemed to really like the show.
Most everyone I know came to see the show on Saturday, and, though the show wasn't great, the reviews from my friends were better than last week and they said I had improved in the places which I had tried to work on the night before.
Sunday no one came, ugh.
There is a chance the show will continue at Luna Playhouse in Glendale, but I don't know any of the details.
Anyway, it's over, and though it might be a bit late, the pictures here are of the set.  Thank You to everyone who came.

Star-Spangled Girl Opening Weekend

This past weekend was my opening weekend of The Star-Spangled Girl at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood.  The actual opening night was Friday, and it was a disaster.  Well, actually, disaster might be too strong a word.  Friday was the first run-through at the Lounge Theatre with all the props and any wardrobe changes.  It was also the first run-though in three weeks, and one of, I believe, three complete run-throughs of the show ever.  Tempering Friday's performance with the above knowledge, it wasn't a disaster; disjointed and error filled, but not a disaster.  The upswing of a bad opening night is that the rest of the run seems so much better.
Saturday and Sunday actually ran well.  I had settled into the feeling of not understanding why or feeling it, but being told the show was good, funny even, and having jokes greeted with laughter in the rights spots.  Even in Saturday and Sunday there were some line errors or blocking to work out, but, while getting dressed to leave the theatre after Sunday's run, I felt that if pressed to rate the weekend on a scale of 1 - 100, Friday's 50% averaged with two 100% runs equaled 83% for the weekend.
Gratefully, Jade and Meagan can to see the show and could give new insight and an educated critique to me of the show.  I had said from the first few weeks of rehearsal that I wished I could get a pair of eyes on the show that I knew I could trust and would give me honest feedback because I felt off in rehearsal, but everyone told me it worked.  In the lobby of the Lounge, Jade and Meagan greeting me and the cast with rave reviews.
On the sidewalk outside the theatre, their official review was weak to mild with a blend of poor direction and execution of a bad script, echoing what I thought before I listened to everyone else.  Luckily, they were both able to point out moments that were clear examples of problem spots that could be easily remedied.  Jade and I had an hour and a half car ride following the initial review to get more in depth with specific moments and ideas.
I don't know if the show will transfer to Luna Playhouse in the forthcoming months, but I have one more weekend to work with the show and now I have some new fresh ideas to strengthen my performance and this show.
That said, there were laughs during all three runs of the show and several people stayed afterwards to congratulate me.  So the show, except possible Friday, is descent.  The sense I get of this show is that it is entertaining for everyone in parts, but people who might not have seen as much or studied as much theatre will enjoy the show more.  With this descent foundation and the ideas for shaping and improving I have, I think this upcoming weekend will be worth seeing.
For those unable to attend the performances, I will be getting a video copy of the show soon and will try and post some clips.

A Big Show Uh Uo!

My show Star Spangled Girl is set to open this Friday at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood @ 8pm.  It will run Friday and Saturday @ 8, and Sunday @ 3.  However, the big surpise is that this might be the only weekend the show will run.  Due to some possible complications with Actor's Equity, one of the actors might not be able to continue working on the show.  There is a meeting being scheduled and some talks to come, but the Director is out of town and the actor with the problem has choosen to perform this weekend, though it could possibly cost them their equity membership.
I think everything will work out, but every other theatre show I've been involved with in LA has had a huge problem that was not resolved without major reconstruction, so this one might not be any different.
The long and short of it is, if you are planning on coming to see The Star Spangled Girl it might be better not to wait.

Star-Spangled Girl Performance Dates

I finally know when The Star-Spangled Girl will star me. My run is the middle two weekends of October (17-19) and (24-26). I suppose some people will see that and reckon those are the last two weekends of October, but they are indeed the middle two weeks of the show's run in Hollywood at The Lounge Theatre 6201 Santa Monica Blvd, LA, CA 90038. The run will then move to Luna Playhouse in Glendale, but those dates are not known at this time. I'll have the time of the shows posted as soon as I find out. Hope to see you there.

Devil Blues Teaser Trailer

So here is the teaser for Devil Blues.  There will be dialogue in the final film.  Check out what I did in the desert.

Set Photos from Devil Blues

Here are the set photos from Devil Blues.  I know I look good in some of the photos, I think almost too good; some of these photos look more like model shots rather than set photos.  Also, when did my teeth get so white?  I'm in all of the pictures, but also, the Man in Black, played by Steve, and Jay the DP, share the scenes.

Star-Spangled Girl Rehearsal Photos

Here they are, the first set of rehearsal photos from Star-Spangled Girl rehearsal. Marco and Michelle are the actors working through a couple of the scenes.

This second picture is of Marco, Michelle, Aramazd, and Marco's friend, who has helped us tremendously in lieu t of a stage manager.

This is a comedy. Can't wait to get costumes and an audience.

Star-Spangled Girl Update

I've been so busy with other projects that I haven't been keeping up with Star-Spangled Girl production notes. I think we last left off very early on in the process; I was cast and we were rehearsing in a restored Victorian home. Well, time has moved on.
We have left the Victorian Antique and now rehearse at the Luna Playhouse in Glendale. This will now be the location of our extended run as we will now open up in Hollywood in October.
I have also changed title in the company, although I was originally cast as an understudy, I now have the designation as being a part of Cast B. This is very exciting as it means more preformance dates. The only person who really suffers as a result of this is Marco who plays Andy in both casts and must rehearse 6 days a week, ugh.
That is just about all the catch up needed. Now, today marks a huge milestone in production, we have blocked all but one kiss scene and one fight scene for the entire show!!!
There seems to be a feeling of success tied up with this show. Though it feels to me like previous theatrical shows have felt, there is a sense of promise that is unmistakable whenever production is discussed.
As for my part, I continue.

For Anticipation Sake

I finally have pictures from both Devil Blues and Star-Spangled Girl. I will be posting them beginning tomorrow. I just want those who check this often to be eagerly awaiting the forthcoming graphics.
Also, soon to come, show dates for Star-Spangled Girl.

Devil Blues That's A Wrap

I just spent a weekend in the middle of the Newberry Springs Desert and I left with the promise of a finished film. This film has been a while in coming, there was a previous shoot date that got cancelled due to rain (in the desert) and then everyone's schedule pushed it back to this last weekend. Aside from any purely production related problems, this shoot was new, unique, and exciting. Being a smaller production on a remote location, there was so much realism that I could let my imagination relax a bit and just be. I realize the phrase 'just be' leans toward pretentious actor jargon, but for maybe the first time ever, I would be in the middle of the shot without seeing any of the production mechanics and just feel like the situation was real. Everyone on set was really helpful and intelligent; the other actor was strong and gave me so much to work with.
After last weeks fiasco with the game show pilot, this was a reassuring and promising. Everyone seemed very positive about what was being caught on tape, and I felt respected as an actor. There is only one shot that I think didn't work quite right, but I've learned that, though I might not "feel" it, it might look great on tape. I'm worried about details that might have been ignored becoming huge distractions in post, but this is a learning process; still it would be great to get mentioned for acting at a film festival.
I've talked to alot of people on set who brought a camera, and I should have some photos up by the end of the week.

The Casting that Wasn't

Every so often, Hollywood lets me down in a surprising new way. It happens so rarely these days because I've come to expect too much (or too little depending on how you approach the situation). Today I found a new way to feel crappy about myself.
I got cast in a new spoof game show pilot for Cartoon Network. I was to work one day as a fake contestant for which they would pay me handsomely, though I would never see the money because I am in debt to AFTRA. Possibly the worst part is that I wasn't actually too excited about the casting at first; I didn't know what to expect and I got the order to bring extra underwear. My head filled with horribly degrading tasks and jokes all in the name of comedy to which I would have to later explain that it was all a set-up and I was in on it not the butt of it. Anyway, I did succeed in getting myself excited for the show, I loosely titled it acting and repeated the phrase enough that it felt plausible, I dreamed of saying or doing something so funny that Cartoon Network would have to call a special meeting with me to discuss projects, I changed my sleeping habits in order to meagerly sustain myself for the 48 hours I would be awake on a schedule that rotated work, shoot, work.
I arrived on set at 7:45, At this point I've been awake almost twenty hours. I sat around as we awaited the coming of the third contestant. I got dressed in wardrobe. I talked up how good I would be at this still unspecified game. Two hours later, still waiting for the last contestant to arrive, I ask if we are still going to be able to wrap by 8-8:30 (over twelve hours after the original call).
At this junction I need to clarify how scheduling works typically. Especially if a job is union, an actor is given an eight hour window, then expects to languish around another three or four hours before finally wrapping at around twelve hours. I had made it known to the people who needed to know that I still had to work that night, as I in essence was working for free and suspected that since they had blocked off a twelve hour schedule, they were being extra cautious (though even I didn't think a production company was truly able to act in such a way)
My question about the wrap time was greeted as if I was a jackrabbit posing as the Easter bunny. Of course we wouldn't be wrapped by 8 or even 8:30. In fact as the production guy sat there he said he now was reading the schedule and it was said to wrap at 9 and he had misread it until this point. Furthermore, this would be a long day, and could go on until 10 or 11.
There was a time where I had to explain I worked at a understaffed hospital and patients needed to be seen and I could not call them and cancel, a point when my name tag was taken, and then the arrival of the final contestant.
I was released around 11:30, and figured I'd have my agent call to discuss rates.
The worst part about this story is I honestly don't feel it was my fault, but I honestly feel that I am considered completely in the wrong and that this will somehow haunt me in future castings. I will be the guy who is now A Sleep Technician First and an Actor Second. And I did this all to myself. I twisted my schedule, I let myself believe that a shoot list would be adhered to, I gave them the ability to call fake contestant work acting and then the right to call me an uncommitted actor. I did it all to myself, but I've done this before and I seem to have made this manner my way of dealing with Hollywood. Now, I'm really left wondering that by committing to be an actor what exactly have I committed to and what silent code of conduct prescribes when I don't feel horrible about 90% of my work.
I'm sick of this club where the only true members seem to be the ones who drop everything in their life to do even the smallest part in the widest stretch of the title acting and everyone else is a flake, uncommitted, or unprofessional. I feel like a Clifford Odets character.

Shoot: "Hard to be Young" Mary Music Video

This past weekend, I was cast in and shot a Music Video for "Hard to be Young" by a russian singer named Mary (I don't know her last name). I will say that the idea of being in music videos again at first repulsed me, but this was actually a pretty great shoot. I arrived to set at seven and was wrapped and paid by eleven, so I can't really classify this as a typical music video.
I played a boyfriend who was fighting with my girlfriend who won't mary me because I'm poor and, we later find out, she's a money grubber. I plead and plead to my girlfriend and then Mary walks by and throws me a magical M, which turns into a diamond ring. I immediately receive a huge 'yes' to my pleading and then wink to Mary/Camera.
I doubt I will ever see this video as it is completely Russian, and I don't think I know any Americans that know Russian, but if anyone ever sees this video, call me to tell me.
The most interesting part of this video I would say is that all the direct creative people involved were Russian but all the crew spoke no Russian.

Open Mic Performance 8-27-08

Hello everyone. I played a open mic last night at Karma Cafe in Hollywood, a spot that I have seen tons of times but have never visited. The atmosphere was awesome; it has a real small town friendly feel. I performed two new songs Both of Us, which I hope to have copyrighted soon, and Tennessee Town (title still in the works). I am incredibly proud of these two songs, which is why I suspect their first performance wasn't as awe inspiring as I had hoped. Also, the style of both leans towards country/folk, which is not the vibe of this particular open mic, so I'm going to try to find a better spot to try them out.
I hope to work them both into a few other open mics in the upcoming weeks to iron out their performance kinks.

In the Studio

The past few days I've been working in the studio and can finally say that the upcoming weeks will see posting of some new songs and some remixes of older songs. I'm really excited to have you guys hear some of the latest stuff I've been working on.
Though I have various songs in various regions of work, I'm most excited about a yet to be declassified completed song. Though I tend to not have a specific genre to the music I write, this is defiantly something new. I'm looking into next week to post this particular piece; I'm just waiting on some feedback from someone in particular.
In the next few days I will hopefully be able to compile a reliable list of music that will be completed this round.

Casting: The Star Spangled Girl

I have been cast as either a second lead or understudy, depending on the time of day you ask the director, in Neil Simon's Star Spangled Girl for the part of Norman. As far as end result, the dates I will be performing are in flux, but the theatre is the Luna Playhouse in Glendale. I have been holding off on announcing this after the Ground Up Theatre debacle, but now I'm fairly certain this will stick. The play is a chronicle of love set in 1967 San Francisco, where two young upstarts running an American Protest magazine are intruded upon by a beautiful menace, depending on which character you ask. It's a three person play, so I am a lead, and will be getting paid!
So far, we've had a few readings and gotten lightly onto our feet, but there is plenty more to come. The cast is really diverse, and excited to work on this show, which is really all I can ever hope for!
I'll try and get some cast photos online after next week's set of rehearsals.

Re-Shoot Set for Devil Blues

That's a wrap on Killer

I have performed, filmed, and will soon be getting paid for my part as a hired assassin looking for love in Killer. The scene went off well, and was really well received by both the director and the teacher. The best part was the teacher's reception, she really liked the work we performed. Hopefully this will lead to more jobs, either with the school or in the industry.
Let me explain how this process works a bit. The director/writer works with the actors for about a week; going over the beats of the scene, the intentions, building a set. Then at the end of the week, the camera(s) are set-up and the scene is shot. The teacher watches first few takes/rehearsals and then takes the director aside to recommend ways to enhance the scene. The process leading up to the teacher stepping in was a bit awkward, I'm not sure how much experience the director had before this scene but it took a bit to flush out exactly what he wanted in the scene. With the teacher's help, the whole mood relaxed and i felt pretty good about the finished performance.
Once again, I will try and post some footage if it become available to me.

Actually not in From the Ground Up Theatre Company

First of all I want to state how amazing the response was to my joining From the Ground Up. It seemed to me to be an interesting opportunity, but thank you to everyone who congratulated me and cheered me on.
That said. I'm actually not going to become a member of the group. Due to an oversight of my own, I glossed over the section that stated the company is actually a dues based company. As much as I appreciate the usefulness of a dues based company and congratulate those people who create them, I do not think it is the best situation for me.

New Casting

So I'm cast in a student production of a workshop scene, which means I'm getting paid to help a director learn how to direct a script he wrote, at Art Center College. The scene is set in a confession booth between an assassin and a janitor posing as a priest. We've done a read-thru as well as a cursory walk-through and things are going well. I'm really enjoying the opportunity to explore creating this character.
The scene goes up next Thursday. Hopefully I'll be able to post some clips from the shoot.

Joined From the Ground Up Theatre

Today I got invited and accepted an invitation to join From the Ground Up Theatre, a bi-coastal theatre group with a stage in Silverlake, an LA suburb, and somewhere in NYC. I don't know much about the group, but I know that the first project with which I will be involved is a night of scenes directed, stage managed, and acted by various members of the group. Further interesting points of this group are that they produce new work and that I am welcome to perform at both the NYC and LA stage.
I have my first meeting with the group next tuesday. YAY!

POPgoes my bubble career

I'm writing to announce that I have officially ended my work engagement with Fun and Discovery with Bubbles. Having performed a grand total of 0 shows with the company, I feel the need now to look back over classic Bubble moments.
Top Five
5. First learning how to make big bubble.
4. Being put inside of a bubble, something I've always wanted to do since I was a little kid.
3. Comparing bubble work to the god Vishnu.
2. Learning how to make a balloon Octopus.
1. Being in 'bubble class' when one of my fellow trainees correctly pointed out that he had barely finished High School but was in the same job and equipped with much the same skill set as myself.

Highlights Submission pt2: The Great Equalizer

Rejected, The Adventure of Nupa and Pupa was by Highlights. I put the verb first because if you are anything like me you would have just scanned for the outcome anyway. The reason for the rejection is that they apparently don't need stores about daring wing-coat rescues at this time.
I attached the rejection letter because it's not exactly what I expect from a letter of this sort; several times they degrade themselves but they also use the word rejection/rejected. It feels ultimately like they're worried about people killing themselves upon receiving the notice.
I remain undeterred however and am preparing to send the story off to several other children's publications. More on that to come.

The Table Improv

Friday, after the cancellation of Devil Blues, I was cast in The Table Improv, a weekly web series based around a table in these guys Adam and Robert's apartment. The concept is awesome, each Friday Night they cast two to ten people and together the group creates a plot line for the show and map out various running gags that will be inserted throughout the shoot. Once complete, the episode is shot and then throughout the week Adam edits it together. The idea is awesome and I do plan on piggybacking on it as soon as I get my new camera.
In our episode, Adam has created a pyramid scheme-esk cult and myself and two girls show up for no specific reason only to find he wants to induct us. Though I didn't get anyone's full name, the girls were very talented at improv. There were some rough spots in the evening as many of our ideas took non-existent props and people began to cling to ideas instead of moving with the group, myself included, but all in all it was a fun group of people which makes improv fun. The best part of the evening was during the brainstorming portion when we as a group got past polite laughs so I knew right away which ideas were good and which I should never attempt again, which is often hard to do in a group of people, especially a group where people think they're funny.
The sketch should be available on The Table Improv's myspace page in a few weeks. I'll post an update when I get a final publishing date.

Devil Blues Update

Devil Blues Shooting Journal
Day 1:Shooting was scheduled to begin today, Friday July 11th, near Barstow. I woke up this morning and was about thirty miles away from the shoot location when I got a call from the AD saying that the set had been hit by rolling thunderstorm. Everyone was busy running around protecting the equipment and striking the set so I don't know much more that. The shoot was cancelled for this weekend, but hopefully will be rescheduled for September.
I've been really busy preparing for the shoot and, though I was looking forward to beginning the filming, I am thankful for the extra days to prepare.

Joining the Actor's Group

So a few weeks ago, I auditioned for a cold reading/workshop group. I was promised that I'd hear from them the next day if I was admitted, and, having never heard from them, I assumed that I had not made the cut. Which, I won't lie, upset me. However, while I was away for the 4th, I got a call which explained the whole situation and I was kindly asked to join the company. I'm very excited about beginning to participate in the workshops, this is after-all the group recommended by Pam from The Office

Quick Update Pilot Wrap, New Casting and Rehearsal

Weird Laws the BBC pilot I was working on wrapped. I should probably mention that my bit part was upgraded to one of the four main hosts. I shot for three days filming all sorts of ridiculous law breaks around LA, and now I'm just sitting back and waiting for it to air in England, Europe and the US before the end of the year. I signed an NDA, so I can't say much else here other that than.
Casting: I was cast in a short film titled The Devil's Blues. The shooting schedule was difficult to work around at first, but after some fanagaling it looks like I'll spend the weekend of July 11th in the desert near Barstow. The film focus around the relationship between two characters Jesse, a gas station attendant at an all but deserted gas station, and The Man in Black, a guy who sold his soul to the devil to learn to play the fiddle/violin. I'm playing Jesse and met with the director and the rest of the cast today for our first rehearsal. I'm really excited about this project. Over the next two weeks I'm going to immerse myself in research for the part, but the work should pay off, for once.

Casting:Weird Laws Pilot

I was cast as part of a jackass/hidden camera BBC pilot. The show will be composed of various clips of people breaking odd/outdated laws, and I will be taking part in some law re-enactment involving a flower shop mix-up and a lawsuit. This will not be a recurring law on the show.

Open Mic: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf recap

Last night I played this neat open mic in Encino, put on I believe by Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in conjunction with Soapbox. This is a really different open mic because it is outside, it's organized by the host (so there is alot invested in it from all sides), and there are even refreshments. I was one of the last people to sign-up so I went on at the end. I played Untitled and then the audience said they wanted another upbeat song so I played Green Goblin, forgetting the lyrics again. I was also onstage in the middle of the night during something they called 'jambox' which is where people get onstage and sing/riff on a main theme, which was Smurfs. It was interesting? I'm scheduled to work every Thursday from now until the end of July, but I hope to make it back to play this open mic as soon as I can. No pictures this time, Jade wasn't there to take them.

2 Way to see me this week

Here is an update on where you can catch me this week.
Thursday 6-19 @ 7pm, I'm going to play an open mic at the Coffee Bean and Tealeaf on Ventura in Encino. I've never played here before, but I read some great reviews. Write me if you plan to come and I can send you the exact address. The show is slated to begin at 7, but I'm not sure if that's when sign-up begins or when the actual show begins. It's FREE, and it's an open mic so it's not just me you'll get to see if you attend the show.
Friday 6-20 @ 7pm, IMPROV! I'll be performing at the LA Connection Improve Theatre @ 13442 Ventra Blvd, Sherman Oaks. $10 to see the show, unless you contact me then I can get you very discounted tickets. This is one of my last shows with this company for a while and Caroline is scheduled to be in the show, so it will definately be worth checking out.

If I had to choose between the two shows, I'd side towards the Improv because the Coffe Bean and Tealeaf is undiscovered country to me and could present anything.
Hope to see you over the next few days.

Open Mic Performance

Too much rock for one lens.
Last night I played an open mic at Cafe Muse in Hollywood. I opened with Green Goblin (Disco no more) then went on to Odysseus and closed with Green Goblin (Disco no more). I forgot the words to Green Goblin the first time so I quit and went back to it at the end, where I forgot some of the words again, but just made some new ones up. This open mic was awesome; I would suggest anyone interested in doing open mics check it out. Early on in the evening, there were a few of the weird open mic people, but besides that everyone talented, I liked several of the performers, and even those I didn't like were talented. The staff was great and the atmosphere has a comfortable feel.
This video is the end of Odysseus

This one is the end of Green Goblin (Disco no more)

I'm hoping to play some more open mics this week and next week so check back for new pictures, stories, and videos.

My Face is For Sale

That's right everyone, the images from the Getty Shoot are out and my face is for sale. I suppose this is what some pepole would call a milestone. The closest I can get to a link to the images is Here at the photographer's page. You'll have to look around a bit, but I think the majority of the pictures are on the first four pages.
In case the link doesn't work; http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?assettype=image&artist=Thomas+Northcut.

Flix Friday for 6 - 13 - 08

Harry Potter Loves the Order of the Phoenix: Director's Cut Here we have the long anticipated extended version of the contest entry spoof by the same title. The real difference between the contest version and this director's cut is the music. Although I think the music I created for the contest version was good, I think the original music which I had in mind fits a bit better.

Let the film load to its entirely before pressing play.

Submission The Adventures of Nupa the Pupa and Slink the Worm

Today I performed my first magazine submission of one of my works; I submitted The Adventures of Nupa the Pupa and Slinky the Worm to Highlights Magazine. It's a young children's fiction story consisting of less that 500 words about the events that transpire once the wind steals Nupa's Gradpa's wings. I wrote it and it was edited by Jenn. Since this is my first submission I am not counting on making it into the magazine, although, that would be awesome. I will keep you up to date when I get a reply, which I am expecting close to the beginning of next month. Either way, today marks my first official step forward onto being a writer.

The Bubble Show Final Rehearsal

I PASSED! I looks like within the next few days I could begin work with Fun and Discovery with Bubbles. The final rehearsal was last night and I passed all the sections. Also, more fun and important news, I have been given the equipment for the show which means I can post some clips of myself performing parts of the show, we can all look forward to that. I might actually be more excited about posting clips of me performing then actually performing. Look forward to more updates about my first and future bookings, as well as you tube clips.

The Bubble Show Second Rehearsal

*I'll forewarn you, some of this should be read in a British Accent*
If you haven't noticed, I haven't posted any bits of me performing bubble tricks or entertaining you with bubble science and bubble factoids, but that will happen, and, even though it wasn't posted here, the show did go on.
I had my second rehearsal on Tuesday Mid-day, and I was more or less approved for the show. It looks like I will indeed be performing at children's parties, school gatherings, and camp events throughout the summer of 2008. There are several tweaks I need to make to my performance (my bubble in a bubble is crap) but besides that I think I'll do quite well.
Hope to have some action posted up here early next week.
Here's a tid-bit. The picture for this post is a actual real The Bubble Show moment. The man in the picture is the creator of the show, I call him the Bubble Prince.

IMPROV Performance 6-20-08

My second performance with the LA Connection is taking place Friday June 20th at 7:00. I have tickets if anyone is interested in seeing me talk on stage in front of people. I'm really excited about this performance, so please attend if you can.

Flix Friday for 5-30-08

Welcome to another edition of Flix Friday. I'm posting here the original contest version of Harry Potter loves the order of the Phoenix. Jade, Jackson, Rob, and Zane star in the film which was written by myself with help from Jade and Rob. In this version all the music was made by me. Check back later for the director's cut of the film which features a bit more time and the songs which I originally had in mind for the film.

Viewing Tips:
This is a larger film compressed for the internet, so the picture is not fantastic. That being said, let the film load 100% before pressing play.

First Rehearsal:The Bubble Show

As you may or may not know, I have been cast in a touring (or sorts) Children's Show titled Fun and Discovery with Bubbles. We had our first rehearsal this past Monday it was a very unique experience. The four other new cast members/employees and I can now make bubbles in so many more ways then I ever considered, which is actually, I believe, a viable skill. The session went well, we all learned how to make a dozen or so different bubbles and went on our way. Throughout this week I am comissioned to learn the script which accompanies The Bubble Show and practice the tricks. If I think about it, I will post myself running through a couple of the routines as I try and learn them. One actually interesting/exciting tid-bit is the instructor was a Bubble Show person as well and is now a professinal director, and he too is an FSU alum. If only I can make that transcend into more, real work. More to come, the next rehearsal is this coming Tuesday.

Script:Disturbed-ia (Disturbia Spoof)

Here is the second of the three spoof scripts I wrote of the MTV 2008 Spoof Contest. This is based completely on the film Disturbia. This one is a bit more progressed than 4.06 Dog Years Later, as you will see, there are more references to other movies etc. throughout. We worked on this for about a day and a half before moving on. Hope you Enjoy.

Script:4.06 Dog Years Later (28 Weeks Later spoof)

Here is the first script I wrote for the 2008 MTV spoof Contest. It isn't finalized or put in the proper script format because we decided not to shoot it pretty early on, but if you decide to make it, send me a copy. Also, for the reader, Romeo a Dog, he is referred to as such throughout the script, but just to clarify, he is a small dog.

Casting:Bubble the Children's Show

I am currently in a scheduling discussion for the training session of a children's show titled Bubbles. What Bubbles is exactly is a children's show involving massive bubble making. Right now, I know very little about the ins and outs of the production except that it involves performances for both school assemblies and children's birthday parties. Besides that instead of posting what that have told me about the show, since I am not sure about the difference between what I have been told about the production and what the actual production is like, as I find out more, and if the scheduling works out, I'll post more. I am excited to start doing this on a regular basis, since is sounds to me like the combination of acting and being a camp counselor.

MTV Contest and New Scripts

I've been working all week on entries for an MTV spoof contest. I've put together three spoof scripts; 1.04 years later (a spoof on 28 weeks later), Disturbed-ia (a spoof on Disturbia), and Harry Loves the Order the Order of the Phoenix (a spoof on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). We decided to shoot the Harry Potter spoof and have wrapped photography and edited the final video. I have entered it in the contest, and now am waiting to see if it gets reviewed. Over the next few weeks I will be posting the two unused scripts, out takes, the competition copy of the film, and finally a Director's Cut final copy. Check back for all the goods.

LA Connection Performance Review

Alright, Friday brought about my first performance with LA Connection Improv Theatre. I'm so excited to be done with this particular performance because it was my first and everyone let me know it was my first. I will say, most exciting, both Caroline and Brad were there. They are both really talented and stood out amongst the crowd of other improvisers. Rob attended the performance, and my review is peppered with his commentary.
Overall-a weak show. It's hard to evaluate my own performance, but the feeling from the ensemble in my perception was everything was just off. It's hard to get a show going when both the energy and the performers' group bond are forced or not completely whole-heatedly true, and, to compound that, things quickly became dependent upon what the crowd provided, meaning since crowd wasn't super pumped like a gaggle of 14 year old girls, the performance floundered. Rob did offer one suggestion that stood out during the mating game, but it was ultimately not used.
There was the odd funny line here and there, and I think it's fair to say everyone got a laugh, but each scene seemed to have long dry awkward parts.
On the upside, the performers were all really nice and I would really like to spend more time working with them as a group and bonding with them as friends. I think it's hard to go create and share something like improv with relative strangers, so if I get the chance to work with this group again I think it will go alot smoother and be a better experience.

YAY! NEW Friday Flix!

I got my computer back and I have a film all cut together for this week's, FRIDAY FLIX. This week the film will be my application for GSTV; more to come with the posting. I haven't had time to soundtrack it yet, so I will do that tomorrow and I will have it up later Today. Thanks for checking it out.

Performance Tonight, LA Connection

Just a reminder. Tonight at 7:00 at the LA Connection Improv Theatre in Studio City on Ventura, I will have my stage debut with my improv class. I have tickets for cheap if anyone is interested in going. I don't really like going to see improv and I know I'm not alone, but this show should be really good; this other member of the troupe, Caroline, is really funny, not in a stand-up way, and is performing in the same show. If you have an hour it might be worth your time. There will be future dates too.

Final Shooting days of K-Town

I believe this past Sunday marked the end of my shooting with K-Town. This film is based around interracial relationships and is mainly sans script, mostly outlined improv. For my final scene I had a one on one interview with the documentarian to discuss my relationship with Kieko, who has by this time gone back to Japan. Hopefully I will have something to show you very soon. I'm curious as to how this will turn out.

Computer is Down

Thank you so much for check out my blog. Today and through the rest of the week I will be testing out Bloggers new delayed posting status to keep posting while my computer gets retooled and rejuiced. Sorry about the delay in the update, but being without a computer is literally like being lost in a desert without a shovel and knowing the pyramid is right underneath you.

Shooting Wrap: How to tell if she's Faking an orgasm

I didn't get a chance to announce me casting in a short web skit titled, How to Tell if she's Faking; part of a duo scene with How to Fake an Orgasm. If you know me, you know what I think about blue comedy, but this project paid. I'm not going to get into the ends and outs of the shoot because it had a strange impact on me, but I will say I play a student in the classroom who doesn't believe what the teacher's saying. I'll post more about the project as well as a link to the final product when it gets posted. Both these pictures are from the set of the shoot.

Expand Your World Celebration Dinner!

To be completely honest, few companies I've worked with have made it into a special circle I call People and Production Companies which I will pay tons of money to work with when I get Wealthy. Sp8 Digital is one of those companies, and now I have reason to believe Loyola Marymount is in that group as well. After finishing shooting for Loyola Marymount's Expand Your World study abroad program, they have asked everyone involved in the project to attend an informal dinner to celebrate the project this coming Thursday. Adjectives to describe such an action; nice, giving, fun. They really were great hosts onsite and easy/interesting to work with, so this dinner is actually almost too much, but how thoughtful of them to do it.

Expand Your World Shoot Wrap

Today wrapped filming for me on Expand Your World a promo for Loyola Marymount's new study abroad program. I forgot my camera, but this picture I found of the campus is one of the locations we shot. However, except for the last shot, everything was shot on green-screen. So, although we shot here, there was a huge green screen up. Basically we shot outside for the sunlight, and nothing else. The shoot was broken up into two days, the first day I will appear to have been in a Shaolin Temple playing finger kung-fu fight in front of a actual kung-fu fight. The guy who choreographed and was part of the kung-fu fight, Jack, was a really cool Taiwanese man. He had studied martial arts his whole life, taught around town, and had the comedic sensibility of my grandmother. He truly believes that I should learn Kung-Fu, and now I think I should as well.
The second day of shooting, today, was outside. We actually were sitting at a table outside talking about our study abroad experiences, in character of course. There was some miscommunication between the director and the producer, so my part became completely improv. I really enjoy improv, but I'm always worried that the one time everyone loves the shot, will also be the time my made-up line will flop. Today, the direction for the line went the entire spectrum from zanny to serious, and I learned how to say good in Chinese.
Some examples of lines I used were:
Loved China, but I'm not sure I can return because I killed General Tao with my stomach
Soy Sauce is way better than ketchup
I'm about to expand your world. General Tao, not a general, just a guy who like chicken
The Great wall defended against the Mongol's, I had no idea.
Anyway, I felt good about this shoot. This marks one of the first times that I felt completely comfortable. When the line would need to be changed or the direction shifted, I never assumed that I was a bad actor, the entire day I felt like I was a good actor. That is a great feeling that I hope to feel more and more often.

Flix Friday The Silent Film!!

Today in the Friday Flix is the long awaited Silent Film, The Big Surprise. This film stars Jade and Rob as well as Kat and Jackson with a special appearance by myself.
I had initially anticipated that I would not only film and direct it, but I would score it myself. However, teaching myself piano and then learning how to play ragtime was taking forever; so this flix features tunes by The Original Dixieland Band,Jelly Roll Morton,The New Orleans Jazz Band, and also clips from the music of Bob Dylan and the Smashing Pumpkins. I hope you enjoy this, and check back in three weeks for the next Friday Flix.

Performance Date with LA Connection

Friday May 9th. On this particular night, I will be performing with the prestigious LA Connection Improv company for the first time. Of course it will be just like one of my classes and will include most of the same people, but this will also include an audience; and you can be part of this very special audience. Don't worry too much if you can't attend, there will be several other dates, but this is just the first. If you would like to attend, I have very cheap tickets I can get for you, just ask. In the meantime, I'm getting excited about my semi-return to live theatre.

New Feature

Do you ever sit around and wonder what I'm sitting around thinking/looking at? Well, awesome, I'm going to solve your quantry. I'm adding a link at the top of the page to my tumblr site, which I post things that interest me or things I like; it's a bit less business related than this page. "Check it out and feel free to recommend new bands, videos, photos, etc. Once this post moves down, you can click on the Fantastico link above.

Additional K-Town Shooting Days

I have more shooting dates scheduled for K-Town. It's mostly pick-up shots from the Hollywood reservoir shoot that didn't get finished, but none the less, I'm excited to be working.

Headshots - As Promised

Here are my possible new headshots. I'm posting them here, but blogger crops them slightly on the right so click on them to be taken to the full image. Now, I need critiques from everyone to tell me just what they do and don't like about each picture. Also, I have a favorite, can you guess which one? Which is your favorite?

I'm between image hosting sites at the moment, any ideas on what is a good one?

Back and Better than Ever

In case you didn't know, I've been in Mexico for the past week or so; soaking up the rays and catching some waves. Anyway, now I'm back, and I'm ready to put even more out there. I'll update more later, but here's a quick summary; additional improv movie dates, headshots, improv, the other improv, update. I'll post more tonight at work, but there's a little something to wet your whistle. Also, there will be not Friday Flix this week, just to restate, it will be every three weeks from now on, so check back next week.

K-Town Second Shooting Day

Yesterday I was part of an additional shooting day for K-town, the improv movie I was a part of a few weeks back. Altogether, the shoot was a bit unremarkable; loss of battery power, possible re-shoot, average. However, the location was amazing, the Hollywood resivour. Check out these pictures. This second picture is of the girl playing opposite me in the film. This first picture is the director and film crew trying to fix all the technical difficulties of the shoot. This final shot is the other direction from the shooting location, right underneath the Hollywood sign

Friday Flix!

Welcome to Friday Flix; today we see another attempt by organized crime to get into your pockets. Hope you enjoy the show.

Update: Due to projects becoming longer and more involved, Friday Flix will now be posted every three weeks. The extra time will let me focus on bigger stories while not trying to pump out something in between.

Also, this Monday will be an all new Music Monday.

New Headshots

Alright, my sister/awesome photographer was in town this past week and I managed to convince her to take some new headshots for Jade and Me. We ended up with over 600 between the two of us, so it's taking some time to review them all. I can tell you, we look great in some and ridiculous is others. I'm going to post at top ten or so tonight or tomorrow and then I'll need your help choosing the top three. Think of this as American Idol, but without any movement.

Untitled London Project Web Series

The latest project added to the docket is a season of webisodes written by Jade. I am signed on to direct them as well as play a part. We are still nailing down some final production aspects as far as the shape of the show, but Jade has been working hard on the scripts and they are turning out well. I don't want to give away too much until after we get the first day of shooting out of the way. Hopefully we will start shooting next week.

Mockumentary Shoot

Today I did a quick scene for the previously untitled Mockumentary Project, now tentatively titled K-town. This film seems to be completely improv, and is therefore being shot is chronological order because, I assume, it must change its shooting schedule and location listing in order to follow the story created during each shoot. After the shooting wrap, I was contacted by the producer/director who asked me if I would be available for additional scenes further on in the film. I agreed and am not engaged to return towards the end of the film in a few scenes.
Hopefully I will get some set shoots sent to me in the next few days, which I will then post here.

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Casting: Mockumentary

I was cast in a day player role in a film titled, Mockumentary. I don't know much about it beside what I learned at the audition. It seems to be an african-american director taking a look at racism in America today. I was invited to the callbacks for a larger part, but I was out of town. The part, mainly improv, is a man trying to pick-up some asian girls in a bar before their boyfriends show up; based on the audition, I will probably be playing a racist.
It shoots for a couple of hours mid-day Sunday, so we'll see how it goes. I'll try to get some shots from the set.

Flix Friday for 3-14-08

Today we have a special announcement brought to you by someone who needs a favor. With unorganized crime running rampant, it is becoming more difficult for more reputable crime to exist. Please, listen to the Don's pleas. After giving so much to us, don't it deserve something back.

Thanks for checking it out. You can see past Flix Friday by clicking the link at the top of the page, or by visiting this address: http://www.youtube.com/user/bchristian7

Obama Love from Gallatin Seniors

I was just looking over past videos from Friday Flix and discovered that Super Obama was featured on the Gallatin Tennessee Seniors website. I'm flattered. It took me moving far far away for many many moons to be discovered by old people who used to live driving distance away. I'm not so presumptuous to assume they know who I am, nor even care, but they like the work and that's what matters. Way to go Gallatin Seniors!

Flix Friday to make Triumphant Return 3-14-08

After a three week hiatus, aided by working, which is good. Flix Friday will return tomorrow 3-14-08. There will be no preview this week, but those will begin again next week. Lots of projects to look forward to and several projects nearing completion. Make sure to check out tomorrow's edition.

Lodi Dodi Rap Out

Hello again everyone. Rob has been really busy editing some older videos that we made. This might be the last of them. The video stars me and Chris, and, even though it could be considered a home video, I want to post it because I think I look rough. Warning: This video contains explicit language, it is a rap video sing-along.

This was made by Rob, you can check out more of his videos on youtube under the name FSUSU.

Entourage: The Oath

A few months back my friends, The Entourage, were at The Observatory in Los Angeles and shot an oath. Rob just edited it together and it turned out really well. I'm not sure if this crosses the business/personal line, but I think that doesn't really matter. This will not be posted in the Friday Flix because it is not my production, so check it out while it's here.

If you liked it give Rob props at http://gentleman.tumblr.com/

Getty Image Shoot Cap-Up

Alright, I posted a quick end of the shoot posting last night, but I have alot more pictures and I really want to share more about the trip; so here we go. The first night we drove from Los Angeles to Idllywild, Ca. This is one town that has really no purpose it seems except to one day hope for a huge snowfall. Wait, I forgot to say that we ate lunch at Morongo Casino. Let me say, Morongo...not exactly Vegas, but definitely a Casino. Anyway, back to Idllywild. I wasn't used the first night because we got there really late. The next morning, up at six, I was used in the morning as a Hiker and boyfriend of Marissa (aka Wendy Cooper) and a squirrel. Then we moved to a mountain top and shot a bit up there, I was (officially) used, but I got some shots of myself and the others; then off to another point of the mountain, same situation as before. That night we moved to 29 Palms just outside of Joshua Tree. Having spent two years and some months in LA, seeing the night sky took me by surprise an amazing surprise, and for those of you in my situation, the sky looks just like the Observatory would make you believe. The next day, early morning face shots in the desert near 29 Palms. Then off to Joshua Tree, dead deer, bird, squirrel. The high point, literally and figuratively was climbing one of the mountains. Finally back home. Points of interest on the way to or from Joshua Tree are a west coast Chick-Fil-A and the dinosaurs featured in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

Of course I couldn't fit all my photos from this weekend here, Check out the rest at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bchristian/

Getty Images Shoot Finished

Just returned from the Getty Images. I had a great time, and am now really geared up to work all the time. Everyone on the shoot was so much fun; each night I had my own cabin and had a great group of people to work with. I portrayed a hiker, a road-kill deer, two squriel, and a bird.

The offical photos will be posted when I get them, hopefully three months from now, but I'll get headshots of the other actors posted in a few days. I will also, post a more detailed description of the shoot tomorrow. I just wanted to get a few pictures up from the shoot.

I'm a Model Update

I haven't been told anything official, and probably won't until I'm on set doing it, but the costume designer let me onto a few things about the shoot. I will be acting as a bird and a deer. The deer will involve a very big brown sweater and army boots, and the bird will involve skinny black jeans. That's right, I'm going to be modeling as a scene kid. These photos of me in skinny jeans will be my equivalent to horrible 80's style pictures from the generation before me.
